The Caldera Series is a collection of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that explore the quiet architecture of stone through sculptural wall works reinterpreting geological processes in a contemporary and tactile way.
Each work is handcrafted using paper pulp (papier-mâché) combined with wood. The pulp is slowly layered, shaped, and compressed by hand, building dense and irregular surfaces that recall cooling magma, sediment, and the slow pressure of natural formation. Subtle tonal shifts, porous textures, and controlled imperfections allow light to move across the surface, creating depth and shadows that change depending on the viewer’s position.
The wooden structures, sometimes square, sometimes circular, act both as support and as boundary. They frame the sculpted surface like a fragment of landscape, a cross-section of terrain, or a preserved geological sample. The warm precision of oak contrasts with the raw, mineral presence of the pulp, creating a dialogue between human craft and geological time, between construction and natural transformation.
Although the works visually suggest the weight of stone, they remain physically light. This tension is central to the series: paper becomes matter, surface becomes terrain, and an object becomes a fragment of something larger. Designed as wall-mounted pieces, each sculpture sits between relief, image, and material study, inviting close observation of texture, structure, and the delicate balance between control and natural irregularity.
