The Caldera Series explores the silent architecture of stone through sculptural wall pieces that translate geological processes into tactile, contemporary forms.

Each work is handcrafted in paper pulp (papier-mâché) combined with wood. The pulp is patiently modeled, layered, and compacted to build dense, irregular surfaces that evoke magmatic cooling, sedimentation, and natural compression. Subtle tonal variations, porous textures, and controlled imperfections allow light to interact with the surface, revealing depth and shifting shadows that change with the viewing angle.

Wooden structures sometimes square, sometimes circular act both as physical support and conceptual boundary. The frame contains the “geological fragment” like a cut section of terrain, a preserved sample, or a magnified portion of landscape. The contrast between the warm, precise grain of oak and the mineral, almost primordial character of the sculpted pulp establishes a dialogue between organic construction and natural formation, between human craft and geological time.

Although visually reminiscent of heavy stone, the works remain materially light, emphasizing transformation: paper becomes matter, surface becomes terrain, object becomes fragment. Designed as wall-mounted sculptures, each piece functions simultaneously as relief, image, and material study, inviting close observation of texture, structure, and the subtle balance between control and natural irregularity.
